What We're Looking For:

Michael Baker International is seeking several On-Call Archaeologists to support cultural resources projects throughout Southern California, including Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino Counties. This position is ideal for experienced field archaeologists who enjoy working in dynamic project environments and are passionate about preserving cultural resources while supporting infrastructure and development projects. Candidates will conduct archaeological monitoring, surveys, testing, excavation, and data recovery efforts throughout the region.

What You'll Do:

  • Conduct archaeological monitoring for construction and development projects.
  • Perform archaeological surveys, testing, excavation, and data recovery activities.
  • Document field observations and maintain accurate field records.
  • Support cultural resource investigations and compliance efforts.
  • Ensure adherence to applicable federal and state archaeological regulations.
  • Travel throughout Southern California to support project assignments.
  • Communicate effectively with project managers, clients, agency representatives, and project teams.

What You Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor's degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Cultural Resources Management (CRM) field archaeology.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations applicable to archaeology and cultural resources.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational, and documentation skills.
  • Experience using modern communication tools, including email, telephone, and video conferencing platforms.
  • Valid California driver's license.
  • Ability to travel throughout California as needed.
  • Ability to work independently in field environments.
  • Ability to walk up to 5 miles per day on uneven terrain.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
  • Physical capability to perform fieldwork under varying environmental conditions.

Compensation:

The approximate compensation range for this position is $25 - $30 per hour. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
