Target hiring range for this position will be between $51,350.00 - $70,000.00. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

The Assistant Director of Broadcast Production, StudentU Coordinator serves as the primary contact for Northwestern's Big Ten Network StudentU productions and student broadcast workforce. This position oversees the planning and execution of live streaming productions, including student recruitment, scheduling, onboarding, payroll, training and professional development. The Assistant Director works closely with the Director of Broadcast Production, Big Ten Network and venue production partners to ensure consistent production quality, efficient use of shared resources and a strong educational experience for student employees.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Serve as the primary contact for all Big Ten Network StudentU productions, student staffing needs and day-to-day operational coordination.
• Partner with the Director of Broadcast Production to recruit, interview, hire and retain student employees for live broadcast productions.
• Manage student scheduling, onboarding, payroll coordination and related administrative processes, ensuring accurate records and appropriate staffing for all assigned events.
• Develop, maintain and continually improve a comprehensive student training program from initial hire through graduation, including defined benchmarks, milestones and opportunities for progressive responsibility and professional development.
• Plan, staff and execute live StudentU streaming productions, including serving in control room and production roles as needed before, during and after events.
• Troubleshoot technical and operational issues and implement timely solutions to minimize disruption to live events and protect broadcast quality.
• Lead the setup of equipment in the venue and the control room for StudentU productions.
• Work collaboratively with in-house production and venue technology partners to coordinate schedules, share equipment and personnel, and maximize available resources across productions.
• Collaborate with Big Ten Network on event schedules, break formats, crew sheets, graphics package updates, equipment service needs, production standards and communication between the network and student crews.
• Maintain consistent communication with students regarding schedules, expectations, production changes, training opportunities and performance feedback.
• Occasionally assist with Northwestern in-venue video board productions and the streaming of events outside of StudentU responsibilities.
• Responsible for adhering to all Department and University policies and procedures, as well as the rules, regulations, bylaws and interpretations of the Big Ten Conference, CSC and the NCAA.
• Responsible for adhering to all Department and University continuing education initiatives and required certifications and trainings.

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Certifications, Skills)

• Identify the minimum qualifications required to successfully perform the job. Qualifications include education, experience, specialized knowledge, professional certification.
• Bachelor's degree in video/film production, communications or related field or successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
• Minimum 1 year of professional experience with live sporting event production and technical understanding of required equipment (including router, switcher, graphics engines, replay machines and more).
• Minimum 1 year of professional experience with sports video production, including shooting, editing and post-production.
• Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite, including Premiere, After Effects and Photoshop.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work efficiently on short deadlines, including balancing multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to work cooperatively with others and effectively interact and establish engaging relationships with a wide variety of constituents. 

Preferred Qualifications (Education, Experience, Certifications, Skills)

• Knowledge of rules and regulations of the NCAA, CSC, Big Ten Conference and Northwestern University preferred
• Working knowledge of Ross XPression and Carbonite preferred.
• Experience with directing, technical directing and overseeing game day staff preferred.
• Understanding of sports broadcast production techniques and the ability to communicate and teach techniques to students preferred.
