Position Duties
This position supports the planning and direction of highway maintenance operations, including roadway repairs, equipment use, and coordination with staff and local partners. Your primary responsibilities will entail project planning, workforce guidance, and ensuring that maintenance activities meet all required standards. As an Assistant Highway Maintenance Manager, you will perform the following duties:
- Maintenance Planning: Prepare seasonal plans, estimates, and programs for highway and bridge maintenance
- Workforce Guidance: Provide instruction to managers and staff on proper maintenance practices and resource use
- Resource Evaluation: Review and recommend actions regarding funding, materials, staffing, and equipment needs
- Partner Coordination: Meet with local governments and public service organizations to discuss projects and set priorities
- Staff Supervision: Assign tasks, evaluate performance, and support training and development for employees
- Policy Compliance: Support environmental practices and ensure Fair Labor Standards Act responsibilities are followed

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Dual shifts effective November through March.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $67,736.00 (before taxes).

Minimum Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of experience as a Highway Maintenance Coordinator, Roadway Programs Coordinator, or Transportation Construction Manager 1 (Commonwealth job titles or equivalent Federal Government job titles, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Six years of technical experience in highway maintenance, highway construction, or maintenance of heavy equipment used in highway construction projects; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement:
- This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent
