Assistant Professor, Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Aging/Infectious Disease (Tenure-Track)

The Department of Biochemistry and Cell Biology at Stony Brook University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. Candidates who seek to understand cell, molecular, or developmental biology using biochemical, molecular, genetic, and/or cell biological methods are encouraged to apply. The department is particularly interested in candidates whose research addresses questions relevant to aging or infectious disease.

Comprising faculty in both the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Medicine, the Department of Biochemistry and Cell Biology is an active, collaborative community of scholars with broad research interests dedicated to both scientific discovery and fostering inclusive education at undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate levels. Beyond the Department there are opportunities for collaboration with other departments and with research programs including the Stony Brook Center for Structural Biology, the Stony Brook Institute for Chemical Biology and Drug Discovery, the Laufer Center for Physical and Quantitative Biology, the Stony Brook Center for Infectious Diseases, as well as the Laboratory for Biomolecular Structure at the nearby Brookhaven National Laboratory. In addition, the University maintains professionally staffed core facilities to support research including cryo-electron microscopy, proteomics, next generation sequencing and confocal microscopy.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
All candidates must have a Ph.D. and/or M.D. in biochemistry, cell biology, or a closely related field, as well as at least two years of postdoctoral experience. Candidates must have demonstrated excellence in innovative research and have a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Research program focused upon fundamental questions about cell, molecular, or developmental biology with relevance to aging or infectious disease using biochemical, molecular, genetic, and/or cell biological approaches.

Tenure Track position. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. To qualify for tenure, the candidate must meet the criteria established by the School of Medicine (School of Medicine's Criteria for Appointment, Promotion and Tenure).
