Responsibilities

 
  • Engaging in a well-defined scholarship agenda with clear connections to K-12 educational policy and/or transitions to higher education.
  • Teaching graduate courses in our online EdD program related to educational policy and/or research methods;
  • Advising graduate students in the online EdD program and other programs as requested;
  • Serving on student graduate committees, including chairing EdD student dissertations;
  • Providing service to the university, the department, the college, and the profession;
  • Developing and submitting grant proposals to funding agencies.

Qualifications

 
  • Earned doctorate in educational leadership, educational policy, or related education and/or social science disciplines;
  • Evidence of high-quality scholarship (e.g., recent publications in peer-reviewed journals, working papers, recent presentations at national or international conferences);
  • Commitment to and experience working with students of various backgrounds;
  • Ability to teach educational leadership and policy courses and/or research methods courses;
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

 
  • Expertise in qualitative research methods
  • Experience with mentorship, in preparation for chairing EdD student dissertations;
  • Experience with online teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level.  
  • Experience with teaching or training in research design courses (literature review, prospectus development, applied qualitative methods, etc.);
  • Potential for success in garnering external funding for research.

The Department of Educational Leadership & Policy Studies (ELPS) in the Anne Spencer Daves College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences at Florida State University invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-earning assistant professor position. We seek a colleague committed to research, mentorship, teaching, and advising. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in ongoing research in well-defined scholarship areas with clear connections to K-12 educational policy, advise professional doctoral students in our online EdD program, chair EdD dissertation committees, contribute to academic service, and apply for external funding to support new research projects. 

ELPS strives to develop a deep understanding of, and respect for, our students and colleagues. The Department enrolls a sizable population of students in online EdD and master’s/specialist degree programs, in-person PhD and master’s programs, and hosts a program evaluation certificate program. We seek a colleague who is committed to and capable of effectively educating students across multiple programs, with a particular focus on advising EdD students.
