Position Overview:
The University of Hawai'i at Hilo (UH Hilo) is a public university on the Island of Hawai'i, recognized for its integration of cultural immersion and place-based research that leverages the island's extraordinary geological, biological, and cultural diversity. A comprehensive, regional campus within the ten-campus University of Hawai'i System, UH Hilo offers undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees that span six colleges: Arts & Sciences; Natural & Health Sciences; Business Administration; Agriculture, Forestry & Natural Resources; Hawaiian Language; and Pharmacy. The colleges are accountable to the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at UH Hilo, which provides leadership and administrative oversight for the instructional, research, and academic support units of the campus.
The Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy (DKICP) is the only pharmacy school in Hawaii and the Pacific Basin. The college is committed to offering quality heath professional education to meet the needs of the state; driving innovations that advance health, science and technology; and providing outreach and services that empower health and well-being in communities.
This is a full-time, 11-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position that reports to the Chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice. The ideal candidate will contribute to teaching, patient care, research and service, with experience in community practice and an interest in developing innovative community-based clinical services. This position will be located on the island of Hawai'i (Hilo).
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the PharmD curriculum in both the in-person and extended, online PharmD curriculum.
- Precept students on introductory and/or advanced pharmacy practice experiences.
- Serve as a faculty mentor and/or advisor for students.
- Establish and maintain an innovative community-based clinical practice at a community pharmacy partner site, supporting services such as home-based medication management, behavioral health and substance use disorder services, preventive care, chronic disease management, and emergency preparedness.
- Conduct scholarly activity with evidence of publications, presentations, and/or competitive funding.
- Engage in College, University, and community professional service including service on College of Pharmacy committees.
- Complete other activities assigned by the Chair of Pharmacy Practice to support the College of Pharmacy’s mission and accreditation.
- The expected distribution of effort will be 50% teaching, 20% scholarship, and 30% service.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Eligible for Pharmacist licensure in the State of Hawai'i at the time of hire.
- PharmD degree from an accredited college or university.
- Successful completion of a PGY1 residency program or equivalent professional experience.
- Willingness to collaborate with other faculty on team taught courses.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Five (5) years pharmacy practice experience.
- Pharmacy practice experience of 1-3 years with experience teaching pharmacy students.
- Experience with curricular development, assessment and evaluation in a PharmD program.
- Knowledge of the accreditation standards of the Accreditation Council for Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE).
- Experience developing or implementing new pharmacy services.
- Experience serving rural or underserved populations in a pharmacy setting.
- Experience with home-based care, behavioral health, or SUD services.
- Immunization/injection certification.
- Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adapt to community needs on short notice.
- Entrepreneurial and program building mindset.
