Position Summary

The Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research conducts basic science and translational research within the Department of Pediatrics at Indiana University School of Medicine. The Wells Center houses more than 300 faculty investigators, staff, and trainees seeking answers to the most pressing questions related to childhood illness.

With the collaboration between scientists and physicians, the center aims to increase knowledge of causes and mechanisms of serious pediatric diseases. Our goal is to develop innovative approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of sick children in Indiana and beyond.

The laboratory of Dr. Emily K. Sims at the Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research is seeking a highly motivated Scientist with expertise in molecular biology techniques and type 1 diabetes. The successful candidate will contribute to an NIH-funded research project focused on interferon alpha impacts on islet extracellular vesicles.
 
 Responsibilities:
  • Design, conduct, and analyze experiments related to extracellular vesicles in in vitro islet models, human islets, and human blood samples.
  • Perform animal studies, including handling, treatment, and tissue collection.
  • Collaborate with other researchers to advance the project’s scientific goals.
  • Maintain accurate experimental records and prepare data for presentations, publications, and grant reports.
  • Contribute to a productive and collegial laboratory environment.

Basic Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Medical Science, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related science field.
  • Strong work ethic, high level of motivation, and commitment to scientific excellence.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
