Thrivent is seeking an Associate Engineer to join its Money Movement team within the Enterprise Payments & Money Movement portfolio. The role supports the design, development, testing, implementation, and maintenance of modern applications while building expertise in software engineering, DevOps, and AI-assisted development practices.
What you'll do:
- Apply foundational technical knowledge while working with other engineers to deliver high-quality solutions and business outcomes
- Participate in software design, development, testing, and implementation within the team

- Demonstrate curiosity and persistence when working through unfamiliar or challenging technical problems
- Develop, test, and maintain software alongside other engineers using modern engineering practices
- Build experience with technologies such as Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, Kafka, event-driven architectures, databases, and CI/CD
- Contribute to code reviews and learn to apply team engineering standards and patterns
- Take ownership of assigned work and demonstrate tenacity in driving problems through to resolution
- Demonstrate a strong growth mindset and actively seek opportunities to learn new technologies, engineering practices, and approaches
- Actively explore and apply AI-assisted development tools to support learning, problem solving, software development, testing, documentation, and troubleshooting
- Develop the ability to effectively prompt, evaluate, and validate AI-generated solutions rather than relying on AI output without understanding it
- Experiment with emerging AI capabilities and share useful techniques, successes, and learnings with the team
What they're looking for:
- • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or other technical field or equivalent work experience
- • 0 to 2 years of application engineering experience
- • Foundational understanding of at least one programming language and software development concepts
- • Demonstrated curiosity, initiative, and willingness to continuously learn and develop new technical skills
- • Ability to collaboratively problem solve and demonstrate persistence when working through unfamiliar challenges
- • Willingness to seek, receive, and apply feedback as part of continued growth
- • Knowledge of version control practices and software development lifecycle concepts

- • Exposure to Java and Spring Boot through professional experience, internships, coursework, or personal projects
- • Exposure to REST APIs, Kafka, event-driven architectures, cloud technologies, or CI/CD practices
- • Experience experimenting with AI and AI-assisted development tools through coursework, personal projects, internships, or professional experience
