Job Description
Launch Your Engineering Career Supporting the Navy's Most Critical Power Systems
Are you an early‑career engineer looking for meaningful, hands‑on work with high‑impact systems? This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the testing, troubleshooting, and advancement of the U.S. Navy's nuclear‑powered submarine electric plant power and instrumentation and control systems. You'll build foundational technical skills while working directly with complex electrical and electronic systems in a one‑of‑a‑kind test environment.
In this role, you will learn from experienced engineers, grow your system‑level understanding, and gain exposure to diverse technical challenges. You'll collaborate closely with teammates and shipyard stakeholders while developing the confidence and ownership needed to make a real impact.
What You'll Do
• Perform hands‑on testing, data collection, and analysis for shipboard power electronic systems
• Support instrumentation and control system compatibility and qualification testing
• Assist in diagnosing and troubleshooting electrical and system‑level issues under guidance from experienced engineers
• Contribute to the development and refinement of data acquisition systems and PLC‑based automation
• Help design and implement upgrades to test equipment and facilities
• Work with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate test execution and laboratory operations
• Prepare clear written and verbal documentation to support engineering decisions and stakeholder communication

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field.

- Academic or internship experience in power electronics, circuit design, signals and systems, or related electrical engineering disciplines
- Familiarity with electrical test equipment or basic troubleshooting methods

Pay Range
Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations. For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets.
