Essential Duties/Responsibilities

The Shipping Clerk is responsible for maximizing shipping efficiencies for the client and to notify operation leaders of issue or opportunities regards to shipping.  Specialist will have an active role on the floor of the distribution center in both inbound and outbound operations.  

1. Evaluating inbound shipments to gain an understanding of the client’s inbound volumes
2. Monitoring inbound shipments for correct routing
3. Making carrier recommendations based on product type, weight thresholds, and service levels
4. Monitor outbound shipments for packaging and dimensional weight considerations
5. Informing operational staff members of issues that will impact the client’s freight charges
6. Assisting the client in understanding their business from a transportation perspective – cause and effect of decisions
7. Understanding the client’s rates and rate structures to better guide the client and company in making operational decisions
8. Assist the client in “as needed” analysis of the transportation activities

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in a Distribution Center environment
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Good written and oral communication skills

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 1-2 years' experience in Receiving
• 1-2 years' experience operating a RF gun
• Inventory background preferred
• Quality background preferred
• Must have at least 6 months of experience with JDE 7.3
• Forklift certified or willing to be certified
• Strong attention to detail
• Computer literate
• Ability to lift up to 25
• Experience working in a production driven environment
• Ability to stand for long periods of time
• Ability to work a flexible schedule
• Must be able to work weekends and overtime as needed
