About this role

The Position 

 

LMI is seeking an Associate to join the Commercial Real Estate (CRE) Credit team within the Alternative Credit group, part of LMI’s Global Alternative Markets platform. 

 

CRE Credit invests across the real estate credit risk spectrum, including A-notes, mezzanine loans, preferred equity, and structured equity. This role offers meaningful responsibility across the full lifecycle of private credit investments, including sourcing, underwriting, execution, and ongoing portfolio management. The position provides direct exposure to senior investment leadership and the opportunity to deploy significant capital across a diverse set of real estate sectors and structures. 

 

Title and responsibilities will be commensurate with experience. 

 
Responsibilities  

 

  • Evaluate and execute commercial real estate credit investments across the capital stack, sectors, and transaction structures 
  • Source, screen, and underwrite new investment opportunities to support the continued growth of the real estate credit portfolio 
  • Lead comprehensive investment due diligence, including financial modeling, credit analysis, structuring, and downside risk assessment 
  • Prepare and present investment committee materials and recommendations to senior leadership 
  • Actively manage and monitor portfolio investments, including performance analysis, risk monitoring, and ongoing asset-level review 
  • Drive relative value analysis across markets, structures, and opportunities to optimize portfolio-level risk-adjusted returns 
  • Partner closely with Legal, Finance, Accounting, and Risk Management teams to execute transactions and manage investments post-close 
  • Contribute to the enhancement of portfolio management tools, reporting, data, and analytics 
  • Collaborate across LMI investment teams to share insights and support broader platform initiatives 

Qualifications  

  • Bachelor’s degree with strong academic credentials 
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in commercial real estate credit or equity investing, asset management, or portfolio management 
  • Strong underwriting and financial modeling skills with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel 
  • Ability to synthesize complex financial, market, and operational information into clear, actionable insights 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting to senior stakeholders 
  • Highly motivated, self-directed individual with strong judgment and intellectual curiosity 
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across functions and teams 
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment 

 

 

 

Compensation offered is based off a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
