About this role

Job Summary:
Responsible for delivery of Athletic Training Care in accordance with NATA (National Athletic Trainer�s Association) standards as well as Tennessee and/or Georgia Athletic Training Practice Acts. Standard responsibilities include: prevention, evaluation, treatment and referral of athletic related injuries. Work settings include one or more of the following: Erlanger Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Clinics, High School Outreach settings and College settings.

This position is involved in a team-based approach to care. Team members are trained to meet the highest level of function for their role as per the State of Tennessee/Georgia guidelines. Is trained and assigned (as per their role and responsibilities) to coordinate care for patients and is trained and assigned to support patients/families/caregivers in self-management, self-efficacy and behavior change. Is trained and assigned (as per their role and responsibilities) to manage the practices� patient population. Participates in the practice�s quality improvement process and performance evaluation.

Education:
Required:
- Bachelor�s Degree

Preferred:
- Master�s Degree in Athletic Training or related field. Graduate of NATA approved curriculum educational program

Experience:
Required:
- N/A

Preferred:
- Two years in clinical/collegiate/outreach setting. NATA Membership.

Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration
Required:
- BOC Certification.
- Current license or temporary license to practice in the state of TN or GA.
- The athletic trainer will maintain CPR certification in accordance with those respective institutions and Erlanger Policy.

Clinical Duties Will Include, but not limited to:
- Conduct injury evaluations and report findings to physicians
- Partner with physicians to discuss and diagnose orthopedic conditions, present relevant information including diagnostic studies, past medical records, recent treatments and subjective complaints
- Assist patients with questions and concerns regarding their treatment
- Assist provider with injections (draw up and prepare injection and procedure trays)
- Casting and splinting application and removal
- Bracing and crutch fitting
- Create home exercise programs and educate patients in those
- Putting X-rays, MRIs, physical therapy, etc. orders into our EMR system for patients
- Assist with wound care, removing sutures, staples, applying steri-strips, applying appropriate bandages/dressings
- Assisting with patient phone calls and messaging
- Scheduling patient appointments
- Assisting provider with contacting school athletic trainers regarding updates on athlete office visits
- Document information in EMR and chart preparations for clinic
- Will be required to do the SCOAT and SCAT concussion work up as well as assisting with the return to play forms for providers as needed


Event and Tournament Coverage
- Clinical AT will be required to provide game and tournament coverage throughout the school year on an as needed basis in coordination with our Athletic Training Outreach Program

Saturday Clinic Duties
- Clinical AT will be required to help with Saturday Injury clinic on as needed basis. Will also be required to help with at least one sports physical Saturday each spring. Needs will be in coordination with our Athletic Training Outreach Program.

Department Position Summary:
- The athletic trainer will be able to demonstrate an ability to perform the following functions regarding athletic injuries: prevention, assessment, treatment, (including first aide) and reconditioning as set forth by the NATA Board of certification.
- The athletic trainer will demonstrate proper taping, strapping, bracing, and fitting of athletic equipment.
- The athletic trainer will carry out all prescribed treatments and recommendations by the team/program/event physician.
- The athletic trainer will maintain NATA and CPR certification in accordance with those respective institutions and Erlanger Policy.
- The athletic trainer will cover assigned pre-season physicals, sports games or matches, and related events under the supervision of the program manager.
- The athletic trainer must demonstrate knowledge of the principals of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the athlete�s status and interpret the appropriate information.
