About this role

About the Department

Our mission is to serve and protect the public interest in real estate transactions and other real estate-related activities. We accomplish this by maintaining a tradition of open government; providing fair and equitable administration and enforcement of the Louisiana Real Estate License Law and Commission Rules and Regulations; and through the development of progressive education programs that promote knowledge, ethics, and advancement of the real estate industry.

 About this Position:
The Commission seeks an Attorney-General Counsel 1 to serve as the chief legal advisor for both the Louisiana Real Estate Commission and the Louisiana Real Estate Appraisers Board, providing authoritative legal guidance on administrative, civil, and regulatory matters. Reporting to executive leadership, this position functions as the agency’s legal director and senior regulatory officer, advising leadership and board members, supporting enforcement actions, attending open meetings, interpreting and applying laws and regulations, overseeing complex compliance and investigative matters, coordinating legislative and governmental relations, and ensuring agency decisions are legally sound, transparent, and consistent with state and federal law.

In addition to serving as lead legal counsel, this position provides strategic oversight and supervision within the Regulatory Compliance and Investigative functions, guiding complex enforcement matters and supporting agency operations through policy development, legislative coordination, and government relations. The General Counsel represents the agencies before legislative bodies and collaborates with state partners to support effective regulation and consumer protection across Louisiana.
