The Attorney will:

• Provide legal representation to Health Care Authority (HCA) Child Support Services Division (CSSD);
• Provide quality legal advice, representation, and advocacy.

The Attorney is responsible for:

• Drafting, reviewing, and evaluating legal documents and pleadings (including Petitions for Parentage/Child Support, Motions, Orders, and administrative enforcement actions), conducting discovery, interviewing child support parties, and negotiating settlements;
• Reviewing regulations, legislation, legal precedents, and internal policies and procedures, and providing legal advice to CSSD staff;
• Appearing in court and administrative hearings, making recommendations, and assisting with appellate proceedings;
• Researching and analyzing child support issues and developing strategies for specific cases and matters;
• Interacting extensively with pro-se parties.

• Serving the New Mexico Health Care Authority (HCA) Child Support Services Division (CSSD) as the primary client while providing unbiased services to all HCA/CSSD customers.

The Ideal Candidate has:

• Five (5+) or more years of experience as a licensed attorney;
• A license to practice law in New Mexico or eligibility for New Mexico licensure;
• Experience in public sector law, family law, and/or federal or state child support programs, including working with pro se parties;
• Excellent legal writing and verbal communication skills;
• Strong computer skills and a high level of technological proficiency.
