About this role

Cambrian Space is developing a human-rated lunar habitat platform to support sustained human presence on the Moon. The Avionics & Hardware Engineer designs, builds, and qualifies habitat avionics across the product life cycle, including instrumentation, power, command and data handling, and flight and ground hardware.

What you'll do:

  • Design, build, and qualify avionics hardware — PCBAs, sensor interfaces, power distribution, and command and data handling — for lunar habitats
  • Own avionics architecture and requirements across the full product life cycle, from derivation through qualification and operations
  • Design new hardware, redesign existing hardware, and modify PCBAs to improve reliability, manufacturability, and habitat capability
  • Drive changes to electrical schematics and mechanical drawings that improve reliability and manufacturability
  • Perform root cause investigations to characterize off-nominal behavior and mitigate risk
  • Design test setups and execute hardware validation through benchtop and environmental testing
  • Invent tools and processes that enable fast, accurate, and reliable hardware development
  • Establish and maintain design rigor, derating standards, and review processes across the team
  • Support hardware bring-up, integration, and issue resolution through assembly and test

What they're looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a STEM discipline OR High School Diploma or equivalent and 2 years of relevant experience
  • 2+ years of experience in electronics hardware design (academic projects, internships, and professional experience all qualify)
  • Experience with electrical test equipment (e.g., multimeters, signal generators, oscilloscopes) to verify hardware functionality
  • ITAR Requirements: To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. • 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. • 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State
  • Must be able to work extended hours and occasional weekends as needed
  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a STEM discipline
  • 3+ years of leadership / Startup experience, either leading people or leading multi-disciplinary complex projects
  • 3+ years of experience with human-rated space flight hardware or other high-reliability, high-assurance electronic systems
  • Ability to design analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits
  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout software (KiCad, Altium, Eagle)
  • Experience with electrical simulation software (LTspice, SIMetrix, or similar)
  • Design for excellence (DFX), root cause, derating, and related reliability analyses

Benefits:

  • Direct access to founders and leadership – no layers!
  • Ownership of systems end-to-end, from concept to flight
  • Opportunity to shape the engineering culture, processes, and tools
  • Work on hardware that will support human life on the Moon
  • Equity stake with real upside as we grow
  • Long-Term Incentives – company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards
  • Discretionary Bonuses – potential annual performance-based bonuses
  • Comprehensive Health Benefits – medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Paid Time Off (PTO) – vacation, sick leave, and paid holidays
  • Relocation Assistance – available for qualified candidates
