Backend Services Programmer Intern

Epic Games is an interactive entertainment company developing games, engine technology, and online services. The Backend Services Programmer Intern will contribute to backend systems powering Fortnite experiences, own a feature within the development cycle, and collaborate with experienced engineers, product owners, and producers on scalable solutions.

What you'll do:

• Contribute to the backend systems that power Fortnite experiences
• Learn about security, scalability, and maintainability in the code you write
• Collaborate with a team of highly experienced engineers
• Work with Fortnite product owners and producers to figure out solutions that empower the upcoming seasons of Fortnite

What they're looking for:

• Proficiency in Java or similar object-oriented programming language
• Experience with AI-assisted coding tools, such as Claude code
• Ability to communicate effectively and provide task updates in a remote-first team environment
• Willingness to ask questions, seek guidance, and learn from feedback
• Foundational analytical and problem-solving skills
• Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the posting location for the duration of the internship
• Familiarity with cloud technologies, particularly AWS, is preferred
• Familiarity with \*nix based systems is a plus
