About this role
PURPOSE
Working independently with minimal direction, the Industrial BIM/VDC Senior Detailer will lead the BIM Team in the development of 3D models, spools, and install drawings. Review completed work, QAQC against contract documents and constructability. The Senior Detailer assists Project Managers in development of Detailing deliverables such as Work Packages and Schedules. This person will create and develop relationships supportive of the Baker Group Core Focus with internal team members and external clients, as well as maintain and grow the “Client for Life” concept with new and existing clients. Performs related work as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Lead multiple detailing projects simultaneously, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, and quality expectations.
- Develop pre project conceptual models and layout solutions with limited input, applying advanced problem-solving and design expertise.
- Create and manage work packages (groups) to support efficient detailing, coordination, and fabrication workflows.
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules for detailing activities, ensuring alignment with overall project timelines.
- Lead and coordinate detailing teams, including assigning work, tracking progress, and maintaining accountability.
- Oversee and direct external detailing resources, including project setup and distribution of work packages.
- Forecast and manage manpower requirements to support project demands and optimize team performance.
- Effectively communicate with Project Managers, Project Engineers, Field Foremen, Shop Foreman, General Contractors, Subcontractors and other team members during construction process.
- Provide updates to Project Managers, Detailing Team Leaders, Field Foremen and other team members by leading coordination and internal BIM meetings.
- Perform all core VDC Technician/Lead Detailer responsibilities with a higher level of proficiency, independence, and leadership.
- Attend industry related educational courses and/or conferences and review new related software to stay abreast of current trends, products, productions tools and best practices and share knowledge gained with peers.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Minimum of five years in the plumbing and steam fitting apprenticeship OR equivalent job experience OR a minimum of five years of directly related experience which aligns with the essential functions responsibilities outlined AND 5 years of experience leading detailing jobs
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of P&ID’s, PFD’s, Process and Utility Piping
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Plumbing and hydronic license or equivalent job experience
- Valid driver’s license
MENTAL AND PHYSICAL COMPETENCIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Excellent organization and communication skills
- Ability to perform quickly and effectively under pressure and deadlines
- Proven dependability
- Strong problem solving and leadership skills
- Proficient in Plant 3D, Fabrication CADmep, Revit, Navisworks, ACC, Procore, Stratus, Excel, Bluebeam, and Outlook
- Ability to read construction documents, P&ID’s, PFD’s, product literature, specifications and cut sheets
- Strong mechanical aptitude and good math skills
- Proven ability to partner with design teams and field personnel
- Ability to work on multiple projects and multi-task effectively
ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTABILITY
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer
- Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds
- May have occasional visits to a job site which would require periods of standing, walking and/or climbing stairs
- Occasional exposure to variety of temperature, weather and construction site conditions
