About this role

Quanta Manufacturing Nashville is seeking a BIOS/UEFI Firmware Engineer to join its Engineering Services team. The role is responsible for designing, developing, debugging, and securing UEFI/BIOS firmware, supporting hardware bring-up, optimizing boot performance, and collaborating with hardware and operating system developers.

What you'll do:

  • Design, develop, and maintain UEFI/BIOS firmware using languages such as C and C++
  • Contribute to all phases of the UEFI boot process, including Security (SEC), Pre-EFI Initialization (PEI), and Driver Execution Environment (DXE)
  • Support new hardware bring-up and debug complex hardware-firmware interactions involving CPUs, memory, and other components
  • Ensure correct and efficient initialization of hardware interfaces, including DDR memory, PCIe, SATA, USB, and other peripherals
  • Optimize boot performance and implement firmware security features such as Secure Boot, Intel Boot Guard, and Trusted Platform Module (TPM) integration
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers to interpret schematics and datasheets, ensuring firmware properly controls and configures hardware platforms
  • Use debugging tools such as JTAG, in-circuit emulators, and logic analyzers to diagnose and resolve boot and hardware issues
  • Participate in code reviews, maintain technical documentation, and work with hardware and operating system (OS) developers to address compatibility challenges

What they're looking for:

  • Proficiency in C/C++ programming for embedded systems
  • Strong knowledge of UEFI architecture (EDK2 framework), x86 architecture, and platform boot processes
  • Familiarity with hardware interfaces such as PCIe, SPI, I²C, and USB
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to debug hardware-firmware interactions
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills; able to work independently and in team settings
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Minimum of 1 year of hands-on experience in BIOS/UEFI firmware development
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Ability to access and navigate various departments within the organization's facilities
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python for automation
  • Knowledge of firmware security standards (e.g., NIST SP 800-193) and secure boot processes
  • Experience debugging boot-related issues using low-level debuggers and analyzers
