Project/Unit Description

A full-time, supplemental position is available as the Branch Head for the Mechanical Applications Branch (MAB) within the System Development Division (SDD) of the Aerospace, Transportation and Advanced Systems (ATAS) Lab at the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI). SDD designs and builds full-scale, high-fidelity threat radar simulators that are deployed to military test and training ranges. The Mechanical Applications Branch consists of a team of engineers who design, fabricate, integrate, and test a wide variety of threat systems and other radiofrequency (RF) and electronic warfare (EW) hardware. In addition to serving SDD’s core mission, MAB also provides mechanical engineering support across the entirety of GTRI, coordinating tasks such as analysis and simulation, prototyping, and laboratory or field testing to enable diverse project deliverables.

Job Purpose

Lead multiple sponsored research projects. Manage Branch (7-15 FTE) administrative activities including hiring, appraisals and sponsored project success.

Additional Responsibilities

• Conduct yearly appraisals for all branch personnel.
• Provide mentorship to engineers within the branch.
• Seek out and respond to opportunities for new research.
• Perform manpower planning for branch personnel.
• Oversight of branch programs and operational resources and activities.
• Maintain the technical competency within the branch through professional development and training.
• Assist Division leadership with business development activities, including white papers and proposals.
• Communicate branch status during SDD leadership meetings.

Required Minimum Qualifications

• 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Active Secret Clearance.
• Experience designing, integrating, and testing complex mechanical systems.
• Project/task lead on a $300k+ effort.

Travel Requirements

• 10% - 25% travel.

Education and Length of Experience

• 5-14 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 3-12 years of related experience with a Masters’ degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 0-9 years of related experience with a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering.

Clearance Type Required
