District Five is one of six districts of the New Mexico Department of Transportation. The boundaries of District Five include the following counties: Torrance, Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Rio Arriba, Taos, and San Juan. Employees in the District are responsible for providing the Maintenance, Construction, Engineering Support, and Business support measures of the Department to ensure the safety of the public as well as efficient highways.

This job is located in the SF-District Five Complex/Carpentry Crew.

As a valued new employee to NMDOT, you may be eligible to receive three (3) days of administrative leave upon your start date.
This is applicable to external hires not within the State of New Mexico Government.

Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date.

Why does the job exist?

 
Position serves to perform complex carpentry at the District Five Complex, patrol yards, project offices, within the District.

How does it get done?

 
Incumbent will perform various carpentry work, masonry work, painting, remodeling, minor electrical repairs, and other tasks assigned to different facilities within the District Five area.

Who are the customers?

 
Internal Department of Transportation employees.

Ideal Candidate

 
The ideal candidate will have experience in the following:

* Carpentry;
* Masonry;
* Minor Electrical; and
* Minor Concrete Forms.

Minimum Qualification

 
High School Diploma or Equivalent and six (6) months of carpentry experience including wood framing of structures, finish carpentry, metal building erection, concrete finishing and setting, and/or general building repair and maintenance. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) months may substitute for the required experience.

Employment Requirements

 
Position is designated a safety sensitive position. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and /or drug testing. Employment requires successful completion of post offer pre-employment physical exam and drug test and is conditional pending results. Reference check and Driver's License verification are also required and employment is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

 
Work outside in varying weather conditions-hot or cold, wind rain, and snow, dust, pollen, chemicals, rough/rugged terrain, noxious plants and infected trash; subject to falls and bruises, considerable physical expenditure; possible irregular hours-day or night; willingness to accept changes of geographical assignments; stand for extended time. Occasionally work in an office setting for extended time doing paper work and/or operating a computer. Use of hands to finger, handle or feel while performing various assigned maintenance duties, numerous specific vision abilities to include: close, distance, color, and peripheral vision; depth perception, and ability to adjust focus; lifting up to 50 pounds; climbing, reaching, kneeling, crawling to perform building maintenance. Exposure to loud noises, power tools and heavy equipment.
