About this role

Position Summary:       

The Shoel Umeishiv serves as a mentor and academic resource for students, helping them understand, analyze, and navigate complex texts while fostering critical thinking and meaningful engagement with the material. This role involves building strong relationships with students, creating a supportive and approachable environment where they feel comfortable discussing both academic and personal matters, and providing guidance and encouragement throughout their learning experience. In addition, the Shoel Umeishiv may occasionally assume instructional responsibilities by substituting for the teacher and leading class sessions, ensuring continuity of learning and maintaining a high standard of educational engagement.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Assist students with understanding and deciphering the texts
  • Develop relationships with the students and make them feel comfortable discussing both academic and non-academic matters
  • On occasion, substitute for the teacher and teach the class

Experience & Educational Background:

  • Rabbinic ordination
  • 2+ years teaching Talmudic and other Jewish texts
  • Experience leading small groups of students

Skills & Competencies:

  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to give a lecture on occasion
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to read and write Hebrew

Salary Range:

$31.25 - $31.25 per hour
