Office of Adult, Aging and Disability Services - Wheat Ridge Regional Center 
This work unit exists to provide quality health care, personal hygiene maintenance and an active learning atmosphere in a safe and healthy environment for developmentally disabled and mentally ill individuals. This work unit provides 24-hour treatment services that are in compliance with State and Federal regulations.

The Wheat Ridge Regional Center is looking to hire motivated, hard-working individuals to provide direct support services to individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Some of the individuals we serve have high medical needs, while others need significant support around behavioral and mental health needs. Once hired on, there are many opportunities for promotion and career growth.

Description of Job


 
The Health Care Technician III position has charge responsibility for a shift.  It is also to implement the Individual Program Plan (IPP) for each resident.  This involves active treatment; medical and therapeutic services (including administering medications); protection from harm; rights; teaching self-help skills (such as personal hygiene); interacting with the residents in all areas of feeding, toileting, developing social skills, transportation and recreation; and quality of life.  Maintains home and equipment for a clean and safe environment.  Evaluates the effectiveness of the IP by measuring residents’ progress; recommends changes and needed to benefit the resident.  Responds to a variety of situations including medical emergencies and behavioral problems.

Additionally, as an HCT III you can expect to:

  • Provides leadership of staff on a shift. Ensures that duties are being performed within acceptable guidelines. Ensure clients are receiving all services, medications and treatments, as prescribed by the Individual Program P, in a timely manner.
  • Physically lift, transport and/or position residents by using approved lifting techniques (i.e. two-man lift or pivot transfer).  Employ Colorado Approved Intervention Techniques (Safety Care) in addressing a behaviorally troubled resident.  Safely operate a motor vehicle when transporting residents around campus or to outside locations
  •  Documents outcomes of treatments and program implementation timely and accurately.
  • Monitors and reports progress, maintenance and regression according to IPP
  • Administer physician ordered medications and medical treatments in proper dosages at appropriate times to each individual
  • Directs assigned staff in work duties and schedules, according to pre-established activity plans/schedules and daily individual needs.
  • Provides onsite training, counseling, and monitoring of support staff to ensure that all aspects of the individual’s vocational/ work life are being served, and to ensure timely and accurate implementation of active treatment as identified in the IPP.
  • Identifies training needs; and initiates request for training from professional staff as needed (i.e., notifies supervisor and/ or responsible discipline) 
  • Other duties as required for business needs.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights


Special Qualification

  • SBON (State Board of Nursing) Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT),  Qualified Medication Administration Personnel (QMAP) required for this position; valid, current and unrestricted.


Minimum Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or GED;
AND
  • Two (2) years of experience leading a work group, ensuring safety and outcomes, assisting with activities of daily living or working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities.

Substitutions:

  • College coursework appropriate to the assignment may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. There is no substitute for the license.

Conditions of Employment:

  • CDHS employees (all Direct contact with vulnerable persons):
    CBI name check and fingerprint check, ICON Colorado court database, Medicare fraud database, Reference Checks, Professional License verification (licensure requirements), Drug Screen, PREA (Division of Youth Services),Trails check (direct contact with children), CAPS (direct contact with adults – Mental Health Institutes, Regional Centers, Veterans Community Living Centers)
  • Pre-employment Physical/Tests: must demonstrate the ability  to lift 50 lbs, bend, squat, etc. and perform physical interventions proficiently (pre-employment and continuously  throughout employment). TB test required.
  • Shift Work – Explain: WRRC is a 24/7 facility, therefore person in this position must be available to work any shift, 
    any day and/or any area, to meet agency needs.
  • Current/Valid and nonrestricted CO Driver’s License
  • Travel: Position must travel to remote work sites and must utilize a state vehicle, if available.
     If not, must utilize personal vehicle and submit for mileage reimbursement. Position is required to use a 
    state vehicle to transport residents.
  • MOTOR VEHICLE RECORD CHECK: This position will drive a state fleet or non-state fleet vehicle for State business purposes
  • Other: Influenza and other vaccines as required by the State of CO
  • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must:

CDHS Selection Process Explanation
Employment history is calculated on a full-time basis (40/hrs per week). Part-time employment is calculated on a prorated basis to determine qualifications.
