Description of Job
Under the direction of a Community Parole Supervisor or Manager, this position will carry a reduced caseload as described in the Community Parole Officer class, so that positions in this level train, guide, and evaluate lower-level officers' work. The work may include responsibility over offenders under the intensive supervision, fugitive investigation/apprehension, *risk assessment management, or other programs.
*Risk assessment management includes specialized programs designed for more effective supervision of high-risk offenders, primarily sex offenders, CMIs, or arsonists.
This position also carries a specialized caseload ensuring adherence to evidence-based supervision practices, and promoting public safety through effective offender management. This position may also serve as a COPD hearing officer.
- Provide coaching, guidance, and mentorship to staff;
Provide effective leadership and operational guidance to staff;
Serve as a certified Field Training Officer and complete all required training program requirements;
- Review and evaluate the work performed;
- Assist in implementing procedures to enhance productivity and procedural flow consistent with supervisor and/or management direction;
- Provide feedback to the supervisor regarding the Performance Evaluation Program (PEP) for subordinate staff in accordance with CDOC Administrative Regulations and State Personnel Rules;
- Investigate and respond to staff and offender grievances and resolving conflict at the lowest level;
- Collaborate with department personnel/units and outside law enforcement agencies;
- Review and provide guidance for planned field operations;
- Routinely provide on-site, field command guidance and direction in the absence of the supervisor;
Carry a reduced specialized caseload of offenders under intensive supervision, fugitive investigation/apprehension, risk assessment management, or other programs;
Ensure compliance with AR 250-80 Case Supervision Standards;
Oversee staff caseload management to ensure supervision practices align with evidence-based practices, risk assessment fidelity, and public safety priorities;
Utilize performance metrics, audits, and supervision data to identify trends and improve operational effectiveness;
Analyze complex situations, identify risk factors, and implement appropriate intervention strategies;
Review case files, reports, and documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with legal and policy requirements;

Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, psychology, behavioral science, or a related field of study. (Unofficial transcripts showing the college/university name, student name, degree, and date conferred/awarded must be submitted with the application in order to receive credit.)
Current, valid Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certification
Substitutions
Additional *professional work experience in community corrections/parole will substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
A master's or doctoral degree from an accredited college or university in the degree areas described above in the education requirement will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year. Field Training Officer certification and training completion.
Leadership training, advanced leadership certification, or demonstrated leadership experience.
Experience in quality assurance, case review, and compliance monitoring.
Project management experience.
Experience in coaching, mentoring, and training staff.
Certified as an instructor as sanctioned by CTA or Colorado POST.
Demonstrated active engagement in intra- and inter-departmental committees.
Master or doctorate degree in criminal justice, psychology, or behavioral science.

Drivers must maintain a valid, non-restricted Colorado driver license, obey traffic laws, and be able to safely operate a motor vehicle. State drivers are expected to maintain a safe driving record consistent with Colorado Division of Human Resources Universal Policy Driving Standards. Eligibility to drive a State-owned vehicle, includes holding a valid Colorado driver’s license within 30 days of employment or residency change and meeting specific driving record criteria. Serious traffic violations, including DUIs or reckless driving, can disqualify drivers for up to seven years. All State Vehicles are monitored by telematics for safe operation and employees have no reasonable expectation of privacy while using an agency State Fleet vehicle.
