This posting is for a Correctional Officer II located at Colorado Territorial Correctional Facility in Canon City.
Shift: 2ndThis notice provides instructions about how to submit a request for a lateral transfer, voluntary demotion or classification transfer (collectively referred to as a transfer in these instructions) to a different facility within the Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC). The CDOC Office of Human Resources (OHR) administers the Centralized Transfer Process (CTP) for covered positions. When filling a covered position with a transfer, an AA will consult with OHR.

Description of Job
**Please note: all transfer requests must be approved by the employee’s current Appointing Authority. After OHR reviews your application - if your name is being considered for a transfer, we will contact your current Appointing Authority at that time for review of your transfer request.
| Position exists to provide a safe and secure environment for those convicted felons that have been sentenced, by the courts, to serve a specific period of time in the State Correctional System. The most basic function of a work unit is to protect the citizens of the State of Colorado by holding offenders accountable and engaging them in opportunities to make positive behavioral changes and become law-abiding, productive citizens. The mission is accomplished while also honoring and respecting the rights of victims. Work unit include but are not limited to: self-control, a strong sense of ability to work in stressful, potentially violent situations, ability to remain alert, emotionally stable, mentally resilient under pressure, observant throughout their shift; tolerance to stress, confinement, and high-stakes interaction. |
Position maintains the safety and security of the general public, staff and inmates; duties include, but are not limited to:
- Provide excellent customer service by directing and/or responding to all stakeholders to include internal and external departments, offender families and the general public;
- Perform pat searches of incoming visitors as necessary;
- Perform pat searches and strip searches of offenders;
- Perform searches of all areas within and outside of the facility for contraband;
- Conduct searches of items being hand carried into the facility by visitors;
- Perform security and safety inspections within the facility to include emergency exit doors and keys;
- Provide lead work guidance and training to assigned positions;
- Promote and maintain a safe and secure environment through conscientious observation, clear communication, adherence to agency Administrative Regulations, facility Implementation Adjustments and the Code of Penal Discipline;
- Enforce statutes, regulations, orders, directives, and procedures;
- Monitor inmates' behavior and encourage personal accountability through effective and professional communication;
- Monitor and control access to the facility and restricted areas;
- Enforce security procedures by conducting work-site searches, inmate counts, controlling unauthorized contraband, strip searches, cell searches, pat searches, and transportation;
- Respond to emergency situations such as fights, fires and escapes according to CDOC policy and preparing and submitting required reports;
- May be required to seize, hold, control, and/or otherwise subdue violent, assaulting, or physically threatening persons which requires body strength and agility of all four limbs.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
If you are applying as a Lateral Transfer, you must be a current Correctional Officer II (A1D3XX).
If you are applying as a Voluntary Demotion, you must be in a current classification that is higher than a Correctional Officer II (A1D3XX), or you must have been previously certified at the level of Correctional Officer II (A1D3XX). You must also meet the minimum qualifications listed below.
If you are applying as a Classification Transfer, your current classification must have the same pay range maximum as a Correctional Officer II (A1D3XX), and you must also meet the minimum qualifications listed below.

Two (2) years of professional experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position
