CDS Intern - Innovation

Costco IT is responsible for the technical future of Costco Wholesale. The Costco Digital Services Division invites students currently enrolled in an IT or related undergraduate or graduate program to participate in a 12-week paid internship program during 2027. Interns work within specific areas in Costco's Information Systems Division and attend presentations from Executive Management. At the end of the internship, interns create and present a summary of their experience to management and peers. The program runs mid-June to early September and is located in Issaquah, WA. Interns are responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses, and housing is not provided. No out-of-state work is allowed, and all interns must be in the office 5 days a week. The Costco Innovation Engineering Team leverages current and emerging technologies, emphasizing rapid iteration, aggressive prototyping, and strategic alignment with business priorities. Innovation Software Engineer Interns gain practical engineering experience by helping design, implement, and evaluate technical solutions alongside senior developers and mentors. ## Responsibilities - Works with stakeholders to identify solutions that support their business requirements. - Assists in prototyping and developing basic software modules, UI/UX components, or API integrations under guidance. - Writes clean, maintainable code for feature enhancements and bug fixes under senior developer supervision. - Participates in unit testing, integration testing, and code reviews to align with team quality standards. - Helps build proof-of-concept prototypes to explore emerging technologies for retail and enterprise solutions. - Engages in agile team ceremonies, including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives. - Documents technical implementations, setup guides, and project findings for team knowledge sharing. - Collaborates with cross-functional teams such as business analysts, data modelers, and system architects. ## Required Qualifications - Excellent verbal and written communication skills. - Good organizational, time, and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize. - Maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or higher. - Currently enrolled in an IT or related undergraduate or graduate program at a community college, college, or university. ## Recommended Qualifications - Costco warehouse, Ecommerce, or retail experience is a plus. - Proficient in Google Workspace applications, including Sheets, Docs, Slides, and Gmail.
