About this role

Description

The Certified Medical Assistant provides direct clinical and administrative support to ensure efficient, trauma-informed medical and behavioral health services.

 

Responsibilities include obtaining vital signs, collecting laboratory specimens, administering medications, documenting in the EMR, assisting 

prescribers, and coordinating aspects of patient care in alignment with WHS, CCBHC, and regulator

standards.

 

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

 

Clinical Support:

  • Obtain patient medical information, vital signs, height, and weight; document accurately in the EMR.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and assist clinical staff and prescribers as directed.
  • Perform basic first aid procedures, including dressing changes, bandage application, and suture removal, within scope or practice.
  • Monitor and document temperature logs and other required clinical tracking logs.
  • Prepare, label, and log laboratory specimens according to protocol. 
  • Administer injectable medications per policy and scope of practice.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens, including blood and urine; complete UDS collection.
  • Assist with nursing tickets, MAT workflows, and clinical procedures.

 

Documentation & Compliance

 

  • Record medical history, test results, and clinical updates in the EMR.
  • Obtain Board of Pharmacy (PDMP) information and complete medication-related documentation.
  • Obtain medication prior authorizations as needed.
  • Maintain accurate logs for clinical monitoring.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and WHS policy.
  • Follow all federal, state, and organizational regulations and safety standards.

 

Clinical Environment & Equipment

 

  • Clean, stock, and prepare exam rooms for patient care.
  • Ensure all medical equipment is in proper working condition.
  • Perform routine checks of emergency equipment, including AED batteries and pads.
  • Report malfunctioning equipment and ensure timely resolution. 

 

 

Care Coordination

 

  • Manage incoming and outgoing patient communications, including returning calls related to test results, medication refills, appointment questions, and clinical concerns. 
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and provider instructions to patients.
  • Contact medical facilities or departments to schedule tests or admissions.
  • Support efficient clinic flow and positive client experience across assigned programs.

  • Attend required trainings and maintain clinical competencies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support clinical operations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • CMA certification required
  • Experience with injections, specimen collection, and EMR documentation preferred.
  • Prior medical or behavioral health experience strongly preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, walking, and movement between clinical spaces.
  • Ability to sit, bend, reach, and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity for injections, specimen handling, and EMR entry.
  • Visual and auditory ability to read medical information and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to maintain composure and accuracy in busy medical/behavioral health settings.
