About this role
Location: Novant Health Presbyterian Hospital – Charlotte, NC
Hours: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, with occasional on-call shifts - including some nights and weekends
Start Date: between September and early November (12 month commitment)

As a Chaplain Resident at Novant Health, you will play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for patients and their loved ones by addressing their unique spiritual, emotional, and social needs.
This residency offers a dynamic blend of hands-on clinical experience and structured educational opportunities aligned with ACPE standards and the Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program. You’ll provide compassionate spiritual support to patients, families, and Novant Health team members, while participating in didactic seminars, curriculum development, and mentorship designed to grow your professional skills.
What You'll Do
- Patient Care: Provide spiritual and emotional care to patients, loved ones, and team members. Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and local/market meetings to enhance clinical learning and patient experience. Serve in weekly on-call rotations, as scheduled.
- Education: Participate in educational requirements and assignments as part of the curriculum and process of the CPE Program. Participate in additional didactics to enhance educational experience.
- Collaboration: Participate in departmental and system-wide spiritual care meetings as requested.
What We're Looking For
- Education: High School Diploma or GED, required. 4 Year / Bachelors Degree or an equivalent degree or equivalent graduate degree, required. Graduate Degree, preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of one unit of ACPE accredited CPE; preferably in a healthcare setting, preferred. Roles requiring communication across disciplines, preferred
- Licensure/Certification: Connected with a faith community to potentially, required. Seek endorsement, commissioning, and or ordination, required.
- Additional Skills (required): Ability to drive/travel to multiple facilities/locations as needed.
- Additional Skills (preferred): Experiences in group learning; experiences in providing care to persons of all faith traditions and/or differing belief systems; experiences of working within the healthcare setting.
