This Opportunity
WSP is seeking a Civil/Transportation Engineer for our San Francisco, CA office. This role will support civil, highway, transportation, and public infrastructure projects across the region as part of a collaborative design team focused on delivering practical, high-quality solutions for public and private sector clients.
The selected candidate will assist with planning, design, due diligence, permitting, technical documentation, and construction support for infrastructure projects, helping ensure work meets applicable standards for quality, safety, functionality, and client service.
Your Impact
- Support civil/highway and transportation design tasks for infrastructure projects, applying sound engineering judgment and adapting standard techniques as needed.
- Collect, compile, and analyze site, survey, plan, GIS, utility, geotechnical, and other project data to support planning, design, permitting, and construction.
- Prepare calculations, quantity and cost estimates, technical reports, exhibits, tables, charts, sketches, and other documentation to communicate findings and recommendations.
- Coordinate with clients, agencies, and design disciplines including structures, drainage, stormwater, traffic, electrical, utilities, right of way, and environmental.
- Assist with field reviews, studies, inspections, project scoping, and construction support to confirm conformance with plans, specifications, permits, and applicable standards.
- Support project delivery through quality control, schedule and budget awareness, technical coordination, and clear communication with engineering and non-engineering audiences.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- 3 to 5 years of relevant civil engineering experience, including civil design for infrastructure planning, design, rehabilitation, new construction, or construction management.
- Engineer in Training Certification.
- Knowledge of civil engineering principles, design standards, permitting, agency coordination, construction requirements, and applicable codes and regulations.
- Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
- Knowledge of relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
- Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.
- Experience with technical writing, calculations, cost/quantity estimates, Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, and civil design software such as MicroStation, OpenRoads, InRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcGIS, and HEC-RAS.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Engineering.
- Professional licensure/certification
- Safety certifications such as 40-hour OSHA Health & Safety training (HAZWOPER), First Aid, or Adult CPR
- Experience with Caltrans and/or FHWA oversight, including familiarity with Caltrans Highway Design Manual, design and CAD standards, AASHTO guidance, California MUTCD, and Greenbook/APWA standards.

Compensation:
Expected Salary (all locations): $95,000 - $135,000
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
