Commercial Construction Accounting Intern - Melbourne

MEC General Contractors is a third-generation, family-owned company with a legacy built on trust and innovation. They are seeking a motivated accounting student to join their Finance & Accounting team as an intern, providing hands-on exposure to construction-industry accounting and mentorship from experienced CPAs.

What you'll do:

• Assist with monthly financial close processes, including account reconciliations and journal entry support
• Support Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedule preparation and analysis under the percentage-of-completion method
• Help track and reconcile subcontractor change orders and owner change orders (COs) across active projects
• Assist with accounts payable review, vendor documentation, and expense coding accuracy
• Support ad hoc financial reporting and data analysis using Sage Intacct and Procore
• Learn how construction financial data flows from the field (Procore) into the general ledger (Sage Intacct) and payroll/HR system (UKG)
• Participate in special projects, including process improvement and reporting automation initiatives

What they're looking for:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• Strong Excel skills; comfort working with data and numbers in detail
• Detail-oriented, organized, and eager to learn
• Strong communication skills and a willingness to ask questions
• Ability to work on-site in Melbourne, FL
• Sophomore standing or above preferred
• Interest in construction, real estate, or project-based accounting a plus, but not required
