Appointees will work alongside a group of community surgeons to provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient general surgical care, including elective surgery, emergency general surgery, and longitudinal preoperative and postoperative care at Ingalls Memorial Hospital and other offsite locations. These positions do not require teaching or scholarly activity. Compensation is dependent upon qualifications. These positions are benefits-eligible. The University of Chicago offers a wide range of benefits programs and resources for eligible employees, including health, retirement, and paid time off. Information about the benefit offerings can be found in the Benefits Guidebook.
Responsibilities include shared weekday and weekend call coverage, participation in group coverage arrangements and practice workflows, and collaboration with hospital staff and other clinical services to provide timely, coordinated care.
The University of Chicago Medicine has been at the forefront of medical care since 1927. The University of Chicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital, located in Harvey, Illinois, serves Chicago’s south suburban communities. These positions offer the opportunity to build a broad general surgery practice within an established community hospital, working closely with local referring clinicians and a multidisciplinary care team. As part of UChicago Medicine, the practice combines community-based care with access to the expertise and resources of an academic health system.
The Section of Minimally Invasive and General Surgery is committed to medical education, research, patient care, and serving our community.
Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a medical doctorate or equivalent, 2) hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Illinois, and 3) be Board certified or eligible in General Surgery or equivalent.
We especially welcome applicants committed to a broad community general surgery practice, building lasting relationships with patients and referring clinicians, and working collaboratively within an established surgical group. Applicants with experience in community general surgery, a broad operative skill set, and proficiency in minimally invasive techniques are especially encouraged to apply. A demonstrated commitment to collegiality, teamwork, and serving the needs of the local community is highly valued.
