Construction and Planning Leader

CAPITAL PLANNING (UA-UART-IUINA)

Capital Planning and Facilities (CPF) works to ensure that Indiana University (IU) campuses are beautiful, functional, and sustainable while supporting excellence in teaching, learning, research, and community engagement across the entire university. A unit within Capital Projects, Construction Management provides project management services for IU capital projects. Construction Management staff coordinate the efforts of everyone involved on IU Capital projects - external contractors, IU Capital Projects staff, and our university partners - ensuring projects are completed on schedule, on budget, and in accordance with university guidelines and safety standards.

• Contributes on senior leadership teams to formulate strategic planning and the highest-level operational objectives for construction and planning areas.
• Establishes long-term business plans and long-term strategic objectives.
• Directs leadership staff who provide supervision to construction and planning teams.
• Responsible for escalated operational issues, including human resources and/or people management situations.
• Drives innovation and excellence within the area of construction and planning; reviews and creates policies and procedures.
• Determines overall budget for construction and planning teams; reviews and approves financial proposals from direct reporting leaders; has significant fiscal responsibilities that require frequent interaction with executive leaders.
• Provides expertise and identifies grant and/or funding opportunities; develops business relationships across the university and externally.
• Stays up-to-date on new construction and planning standards, procedures, and guidelines and works collaboratively with other construction and planning leaders across departments and/or campuses in determining standards, best practices, and related policies/procedures; ensures the adoption and implementation by direct reporting leaders.

EDUCATION

Required

• Bachelor's degree in construction management or a related field

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

• 5 years of construction management experience and/or large-format planning, experience managing multi-disciplined construction projects with scopes of work including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical
• 3 years of management experience in a relevant field

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Required

• Valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University upon date of hire

This role requires both sedentary work and the ability to move about, sometimes quickly, for long periods of time. It requires moving heavy objects, providing support for heavy objects, and performing strenuous labor under adverse field conditions. The ability to use tools, operate machinery, and to complete construction projects with precision and accuracy is required. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential tasks with or without an accommodation.

This position will be required to travel to the Bloomington campus on occasion. 

Indianapolis, Indiana

$120,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
