About this role

The Contract Curriculum Developer – Construction & Industrial Safety is responsible for creating complete, turnkey training courses for in-person or online delivery. Projects may include new course development, updates to existing courses, or periodic reviews to ensure content remains accurate, relevant, and aligned with current industry standards. Contractors may qualify through technical subject-matter expertise, professional curriculum-development experience, or a combination of both. Subject-matter experts must be able to organize and communicate technical information clearly, while curriculum developers must be capable of researching unfamiliar subjects and collaborating effectively with qualified SMEs. Each project will be governed by an agreed scope, timeline, deliverables, and fixed project fee. The curriculum- development agreement identifies expected deliverables such as course outlines, lesson plans, instructional materials,
assessments, and related content.

Key Responsibilities

Primary services include developing complete, turnkey training courses using company templates, standards, and review processes.
The Contract Curriculum Developer – Construction & Industrial Safety may provide services including, but not limited to, the following:
  •  Develop new in-person or online training courses from initial scope through final approved deliverable.
  • Review, correct, update, or modernize existing courses as standards, regulations, technologies, or business needs change.
  • Develop courses in subject areas such as, but not limited to:
    • Fall protection and working at heights
    • Confined-space entry and rescue
    • Electrical safety and NFPA 70E
    •  General construction safety
    • Oil and gas safety
    • Rigging, cranes, and material handling
    • Equipment operation and inspection
    • OSHA and regulatory compliance
    • Rescue, emergency response, and first aid
    • Leadership, supervision, and safety management
  • Create complete course packages that may include:
    • Course outlines and learning objectives
    • Lesson plans and written course content
    • PowerPoint presentations
    • Instructor guides
    • Student manuals and handouts
    • Knowledge checks and final assessments
    • Practical exercises and skills evaluations
    • Regulatory references and source documentation
    • Video scripts, narration scripts, and visual recommendations
  • Develop online courses directly within Articulate Rise 360, including course structure, interactions, assessments, and final publishing requirements.
  • Use Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and other Research and reference current, accurate, and authoritative technical and regulatory sources.
  • Follow company curriculum templates, instructional standards, formatting requirements, and adult-learning principles.
  • Participate in project scoping, milestone reviews, revisions, and final approval activities.
  • Incorporate feedback from the EVP of Operations, internal reviewers, SMEs, and other designated stakeholders.
  • Complete revisions included within the original project scope at no additional cost.
  • Identify proposed changes that fall outside the agreed scope so that timeline and compensation adjustments may be approved in writing.
  • Provide original work and disclose any third-party materials, licensed content, or other intellectual property used within the course.
The agreement gives VISTA the right to review submitted work against its content, quality, formatting, and scope requirements and to require revisions before final acceptance.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Subject-Matter Expert
  • Demonstrated technical or field expertise in one or more relevant construction, industrial, safety, oil and gas, equipment, or workforce-training subjects.
  • Ability to translate technical knowledge into organized, understandable training content.
  • Prior experience teaching, writing, presenting, or developing technical materials preferred.
Curriculum Developer
  • Demonstrated experience creating instructor-led or online training curricula.
  • Ability to research technical topics and collaborate with qualified SMEs.
  • Understanding of adult-learning principles, learning objectives, assessments, and instructional structure.
General Qualifications
  • Experience developing complete, turnkey courses preferred.
  • Strong technical writing, research, organization, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage projects independently and meet agreed deadlines.
  • Relevant curriculum, writing, Rise 360, instructor-guide, or presentation work samples preferred but not required.
  • Industry certifications, instructional-design credentials, train-the-trainer qualifications, or professional designations are preferred where relevant to the assigned subject.
