About this role

The Contract Training Instructor – Construction & Industrial Safety delivers classroom, hands-on, and virtual safety training to customers across construction, oil and gas, and general industrial markets. Contractors may possess specialized expertise in one subject or competency across several areas, with assignment opportunities based on the courses they are qualified and approved to teach.

The contractor will deliver company-approved curriculum while using relevant field experience, examples, and individual teaching style to strengthen the learner experience. Contractors are responsible for preparing for accepted assignments, setting up required classroom and practical activities, delivering technically accurate instruction, and completing all required class documentation.

Most courses are delivered in person and typically range from one to three days, although virtual instruction and shorter assignments may also be available.

Key Responsibilities

Primary services include delivering company-approved safety training, preparing classroom and practical activities, assessing learner performance, and completing all required class documentation.
The Contract Training Instructor – Construction & Industrial Safety may provide services including, but not limited to, the following:
  • Deliver in-person and virtual safety training for construction, oil and gas, and general industrial customers.
  • Teach courses such as, but not limited to, fall protection, working at heights, confined-space entry, electrical safety, NFPA 70E, equipment-inspector courses, and related construction and industrial safety topics.
  • Review company-provided curriculum, instructor guides, assessments, and assignment requirements before each class.
  • Prepare classrooms, training equipment, and practical exercises according to the requirements outlined for each course.
  • Follow approved course content and instructional standards while incorporating relevant experience, examples, and teaching style that do not conflict with established curriculum.
  • Facilitate classroom discussions, hands-on exercises, knowledge assessments, and practical evaluations as required.
  • Complete attendance records, assessments, class documentation, and post-course reporting accurately and within required timeframes.
  • Communicate promptly with the assigned company contact regarding class needs, learner concerns, documentation issues, or circumstances that could affect successful delivery.
  • Participate in course-specific qualification, curriculum updates, instructor standardization, and periodic class observations before or while delivering approved courses.
  • Maintain applicable knowledge, qualifications, and credentials for the subjects assigned.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Previous experience teaching safety courses or leading instructor-led classes is required.
  • Relevant field experience in construction, oil and gas, general industry, electrical safety, equipment inspection, or a related environment is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated competence in at least one applicable safety subject is required. Contractors with expertise across multiple subjects may qualify for a broader variety of assignments.
  • Experience teaching adult learners and facilitating both classroom and hands-on instruction is preferred.
  • Relevant safety credentials, instructor certifications, train-the-trainer qualifications, or industry-recognized designations are preferred but may vary by subject.
  • Willingness to complete company course orientation and demonstrate competency before independently delivering each approved course.
  • Willingness to develop additional subject-matter knowledge and instructional qualifications as opportunities become available.
