About this role

THE POSITION

Join the Department of Corrections as a Corrections Automotive Mechanic Trade Instructor and help inmates learn a valuable automotive trade. You will bring energy and purpose to daily instruction that supports vocational progress. Your leadership will promote confidence and stability in the classroom and the shop. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position provides structured instruction and supervision to inmates learning the automotive mechanic trade. The work supports vocational growth and the smooth operation of the facility. As a Corrections Automotive Mechanic Trade Instructor, you will perform the following duties:

  • Training Delivery: Teach inmates automotive inspection, repair, and overhaul techniques
  • Classroom Order: Maintain discipline, structure, and safe practices during instruction
  • Work Crew Oversight: Direct inmate work crews and inspect completed automotive assignments
  • Tool Control: Issue, track, and search tools and materials used in training and work tasks
  • Material Planning: Determine needed supplies and submit purchase requests for training and repair work

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40-hour work week
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of experience in the diagnosis, maintenance, repair, and replacement of various components and systems used in automobiles, trucks, or construction or heavy equipment; or
  •  Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the automotive mechanic trade; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the automotive mechanic trade.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active Motor Vehicle Air Conditioning Technician Certificate issued by an approved provider.
  • This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.
  • This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Emissions Inspection Certification and an active Pennsylvania Inspection Mechanic certification for class C vehicles and any other class of vehicles used in the facility.

Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.


Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.


This position is subject to the provisions of a collective bargaining agreement or memorandum of understanding.
