Position Summary
CFDay is seeking an experienced Corrections Subject Matter Expert to support the modernization and development of federal corrections training for the National Institute of Corrections. This position requires substantial recent correctional-operations experience combined with demonstrated ability to develop, review, and evaluate adult occupational training. The SME will provide authoritative corrections expertise to instructional designers and other curriculum-development personnel.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as technical authority for specialized corrections curricula.
- Design, review, update, modernize, and evaluate corrections training content.
- Support development of lesson plans, e-learning courses, classroom training, and interactive exercises.
- Validate technical accuracy against current correctional policies, practices, and applicable regulations.
- Work closely with instructional designers to translate operational expertise into effective adult-learning products.
- Apply testing and evaluation criteria to assess training effectiveness.
- Conduct technical and quality reviews of curriculum deliverables.
Required
- Associate’s degree or higher in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Psychology, Sociology, Public Administration, Emergency Management, or another relevant discipline.
- Graduate of state- or agency-certified corrections academy training.
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience.
- Recent, hands-on or in-field corrections experience.
- Experience developing occupational subject-matter or training content.
- Experience conducting quality control of professional deliverables.
- Strong knowledge of current correctional facility operations, including safety and security practices.
- Ability to collaborate with instructional designers and other training-development professionals.
Preferred
- Experience as a correctional academy instructor, correctional training manager, or correctional supervisor with training responsibilities.
- Experience with topics such as PREA, incident command, use of force, less-lethal systems, emergency preparedness, contraband control, suicide intervention, trauma-informed practice, staff wellness, or correctional leadership.
- Experience developing federal or state corrections curricula.
