The Career and Professional Development (CPD) Student Office Assistant provides administrative, customer service, event, and operational support for the Career and Professional Development office.
This position serves as a welcoming point of contact for students, employers, alumni, faculty, staff, and visitors while assisting with office operations, career programming, data management, employer engagement initiatives, and special projects. Student assistants gain valuable professional experience while supporting CPD’s mission of preparing students for career success.

Responsibilities
General Office & Customer Service Support
- Provide exceptional customer service in person, by phone, and through email communications.
- Welcome and assist students, employers, alumni, faculty, staff, and visitors in a professional manner.
- Check students into Handshake for appointments, drop-ins, workshops, and career events.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional front office environment.
- Receive, sort, and distribute mail and departmental materials.
- Monitor inventory and assist with ordering office supplies as needed.
- Support documentation, research, data entry, and administrative projects.
- Assist with in-person and virtual events, including setup, registration, check-in, logistics, and event breakdown.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Career Education Support
- Assist with career programming, presentations, workshops, tabling events, career fairs, and networking events.
- Provide basic guidance and referrals related to career resources and services.
- Support Handshake operations, including appointment scheduling and document management.
- Assist with maintaining and updating career resources, presentations, handouts, website content, and marketing materials.
- Participate in required training and professional development activities.
Data & Systems Support
- Assist with data entry, validation, cleanup, and reporting activities.
- Support preparation of datasets through review, organization, and quality checks.
- Create and maintain spreadsheets, lookup tables, and reports using Microsoft Excel.
- Assist with importing, exporting, and maintaining data across various career platforms and systems.
- Support ongoing documentation and reporting projects while maintaining data integrity and confidentiality.
Required Qualifications
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to learn new technologies, software platforms, and office procedures.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Reliable, punctual, and dependable.
Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience in customer service, office administration, student leadership, peer advising, or event support.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel, including formulas, sorting, filtering, and data organization.
- Familiarity with career-related platforms such as Handshake, LinkedIn, or similar systems.
- Experience managing social media platforms, creating presentations, or developing marketing materials.
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working with data, reporting, spreadsheets, or dashboards.
- Interest in career development, higher education, employer relations, business operations, or student services.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and support multiple functional areas.
Training will be provided for all departmental systems, career resources, event support duties, customer service expectations, and functional area responsibilities.
Special Instructions to Applicants
We do have some flexibility with the schedules working between the hours of 8:00 – 5:00.
