Job Description Summary

The CPD Student Assistant: Events & Marketing supports the Office of Career and Professional Development (CPD) through event planning, event operations, marketing, communications, and student engagement initiatives.

This position provides valuable hands-on experience in event management, graphic design, social media, content creation, and professional communications while helping promote CPD resources, programs, and events to the Chapman University community. Students will primarily focus on either Events or Marketing while collaborating across multiple areas of the office as needed.

Responsibilities


General Office & Customer Service Support

  • Provide excellent customer service and accurate information in person, via email, and over the phone.
  • Welcome students, employers, alumni, faculty, staff, and visitors in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Check students into Handshake for appointments, workshops, and drop-in services.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional office environment.
  • Assist with office projects, research assignments, data entry, and documentation projects using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Monitor office supplies and inventory and assist with ordering as needed.
  • Support in-person and virtual events from planning through execution and event wrap-up.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Events Support

  • Assist with planning, preparation, setup, execution, and breakdown of career fairs, networking events, employer programs, Senior Week activities, and other CPD events.
  • Prepare event materials, signage, registration supplies, and promotional resources.
  • Create and install directional signage to support event operations and attendee experience.
  • Review event layouts, diagrams, and logistical plans to assist with successful event execution.
  • Assist with transporting event materials, including banners, A-frames, EZ-ups, tables, and supplies.
  • Support attendee registration, guest assistance, event check-in, and hospitality functions.
  • Reserve campus spaces and assist with event logistics using university systems such as 25Live.
  • Operate university electric service vehicles (golf carts) when authorized and required.
  • Assist with troubleshooting event-related challenges and supporting a positive participant experience.

Marketing Support

  • Create marketing materials including flyers, graphics, digital signage, presentations, and promotional content.
  • Assist with developing written content for newsletters, event promotions, social media posts, website updates, and email communications.
  • Support CPD social media channels by creating, scheduling, and managing content across multiple platforms.
  • Monitor social media trends and assist in developing engaging content strategies.
  • Produce photo and video content to promote CPD programs, services, and events.
  • Edit and publish short-form videos, educational content, and promotional materials.
  • Photograph events and assist with professional headshot sessions for students.
  • Support mass communication initiatives using platforms such as Campaign Monitor and Handshake.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Willingness to learn event management, marketing, and professional communication skills.
  • Ability to occasionally stand, walk, lift, carry, push, and pull event materials.
  • Reliable, professional, and dependable.

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous experience in event planning, customer service, marketing, communications, student leadership, or office support.
  • Experience creating content using Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, or similar design platforms.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms including Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • Experience with photography, videography, graphic design, or video editing.
  • Strong public relations, storytelling, and content creation skills.
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, project management tools, or campus event management systems.
  • Ability to think creatively and contribute ideas for marketing campaigns and event experiences.
  • Federal Work-Study eligibility for the 2026-2027 academic year is preferred but not required.
Training will be provided for event operations, customer service expectations, marketing and communications tools, campus systems, and departmental procedures.

Special Instructions to Applicants

We do have some flexibility with the schedules working between the hours of 8:00 – 5:00.

This position prefers students who received a Federal Work Study Award for the 2026-2027 Academic Year
