About this role
Carter Machinery is seeking a Cybersecurity Analyst Intern to support security operations in a hybrid IT environment. The intern will review alerts and logs, investigate and document suspicious activity, track security issues through resolution, assist with threat research, and support reporting and trend analysis.
What you'll do:
- Review daily security logs and alerts generated by endpoint detection tools (e.g., EDR platforms)
- Identify, triage, and document suspicious or anomalous activity
- Escalate confirmed or high-priority issues to senior security staff following established procedures
- Track open security tickets/alerts through to resolution and maintain accurate documentation
- Assist with basic threat research to help distinguish false positives from genuine risks
- Support the team in identifying recurring patterns or trends across log data
- Help maintain logs, reports, and dashboards used for internal reporting
- Perform other duties as assigned
What they're looking for:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent training/certification path)
- Basic understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, firewalls, DNS)
- Familiarity with common cybersecurity concepts (malware, phishing, endpoint security)
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow documented procedures
- Good written communication skills for documenting findings clearly
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive security information
- Eagerness to learn; no prior professional experience required
- Regularly required to sit and talk or hear
- Frequently required to stand; walk and use hands to finger, handle, or feel
- Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms
- Periodically moving/pushing/transporting 30 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus
