About this role

Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is a science-based, applied engineering national laboratory dedicated to supporting missions in nuclear energy research, science, and national defense. The Cybersecurity Operations Support Intern will support vulnerability mitigation and secure operations for a Linux-based High Performance Computing environment, including vulnerability research, prioritization, patching, documentation, scripting, configuration management, and security log analysis.

What you'll do:

  • Researching relevant CVEs
  • Helping prioritize vulnerabilities based on actual system exposure
  • Supporting patching or mitigation efforts
  • Documenting findings for HPC system administrators and security staff
  • Scripting
  • Git-based documentation
  • Configuration management
  • Security log analysis

What they're looking for:

  • Enrolled full time in an Undergraduate degree program at an accredited college/university studying Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology with a cybersecurity or systems focus, Network and Security Administration, Information Systems with a security, infrastructure, or systems emphasis
  • A minimum overall 3.0 GPA
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. (including CPT and OPT)
  • Information management and computer systems experience/coursework in Computer operating systems, Servers, Networks, Systems analysis and design, High performance computing, Systems security, or Cloud computing
  • Cyber security experience/coursework in Intrusion detection, Digital forensics, Information assurance analysis, Cryptology, Authentication technologies, Ethics in cyber security & cyber law, Network security
  • Critical infrastructure experience/coursework in Nuclear Sector, Information Technology
  • While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, use hands to handle materials, manipulate tools, type on a keyboard, reach with hands and arms, and operate job-related equipment
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds without assistance
  • Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with people is required
