About this role
Goldbelt Professional Services provides scientific, technical, and administrative support for public health missions. The company is seeking a Data Analyst I to support Blood, Organs, and Other Tissues surveillance for the Medical Product Safety Branch by managing surveillance data, developing training and reporting features, supporting NHSN systems, and assisting with hemovigilance and CDC response activities.
What you'll do:
- Maintain technical content of protocols, definitions, and data collection forms for the NHSN Biovigilance Component (including hemovigilance module); review surveillance methods at least annually
- Develop and deliver training to healthcare facilities participating in the NHSN Biovigilance Component; update self-paced training materials annually; deliver training webinars at least 6 times per year
- Document and respond to inquiries from NHSN Biovigilance Component users, provide enrollment assistance, and support correct application of CDC surveillance definitions, criteria, and data entry
- Collaborate with patient safety, quality improvement organizations, and health departments on transfusion-related adverse event surveillance
- Create and maintain analysis and reporting features in the NHSN Biovigilance Component; implement updates at least annually
- Oversee change request and implementation processes with the NHSN development team, including submitting requests, defining business requirements, and testing/verifying releases (twice yearly)
- Investigate defects in the surveillance application, communicate to the NHSN QA team, verify fixes, and update end users
- Perform data management, validation, and cleaning, including outreach to users for data entry correction
- Identify opportunities to enhance usability of hemovigilance surveillance data for prevention
- Support development of NHSN modules and electronic reporting mechanisms
- Communicate with users and provide technical expertise to improve user interface and group functions
- Collaborate with CDC communication experts to promote transfusion and patient safety strategies

- Knowledge of the principles, concepts, methods, and techniques of public health research and evaluation to analyze, evaluate, and provide expert advice and consultation
- Knowledge of the principles, methods, applications, and state-of-the-art technology in the position's scientific area of responsibility to provide direction and guidance on critical and complex issues
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing to make clear, convincing presentations
- Knowledge of the rules, procedures, and principles that govern intramural and extramural program development, monitoring, and evaluation
- Highly proficient in using Microsoft Office Tools (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint)
- Excellent judgment and decision-making; capable of working independently with ability to multitask successfully
- Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication in interpersonal exchanges
- Highly organized with great attention to detail
- Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Data Science, Public Health, or related field
- 1 – 2 years of experience providing public health data analysis and manipulating, cleaning, and reporting data using a variety of statistical functions
- Highly proficient in using various statistical software (SAS, R, Python, etc.)
- Knowledge of data management systems and application of data management software
