About this role
We are excited to announce our 2027 Internship Program! The program is designed to offer you meaningful work that will prepare you for your career. You'll get to see first-hand how our corporate teams develop strategies and practices that support our retail and manufacturing partners, and customers worldwide.
This position offers a hybrid work structure. Candidates must live within a commutable distance of Red Wing, MN, as the role requires onsite work on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Interns will generally work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, during core business hours. The typical schedule includes a shorter workday on Fridays, often ending around 1:00 p.m., though schedules may vary based on business needs.
Compensation is $25/hr.
## What to Expect
The intern will experience a cross-functional Data & Analytics internship spanning BI data solutions and business-facing insights. The experience will build an end-to-end understanding of how trusted data moves from backend structures into governed semantic models, Power BI reports, and emerging AI-enabled analytics experiences. The intern's primary capstone will be to evaluate a practical Red Wing Shoe Company analytics use case for AI, develop a focused proof of concept, and present a recommendation that addresses business value, governance, risk, access, and ongoing ownership.
## As a Data and Analytics Intern, you will:
- Build foundational data and analytics skills through hands-on experience with SQL Server, learning how data is structured, validated, and transformed to support business reporting.
- Design and develop Power BI dashboards and visualizations that help business stakeholders understand revenue performance and make informed decisions.
- Gain practical experience with Microsoft Fabric and the Power BI ecosystem, including semantic models, data relationships, workspace management, deployment practices, and report optimization.
- Apply business analysis and data storytelling techniques to translate business questions into actionable insights, recommendations, and dashboard requirements.
- Explore emerging AI capabilities in the data and analytics space, culminating in the development and presentation of an AI proof of concept that delivers measurable business value while addressing governance, security, and adoption considerations.
## Qualifications
We're looking for students who meet the following requirements:
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Management Information Systems (MIS), Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
- Completed coursework or project experience involving databases, SQL, data visualization, analytics, statistics, or business intelligence.
- Familiarity with SQL, Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, or other analytics tools is helpful, but prior professional experience is not required.
- Strong analytical curiosity and attention to detail, including a willingness to question results, investigate discrepancies, and validate data before drawing conclusions.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts in clear business language, organize and document work, and collaborate with both technical and business partners.
- Interest in learning about semantic modeling, dashboard development, responsible AI, data governance, information security, privacy, and technology risk.
