Data Intern: Summer 2027

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska is a mission-driven health insurance organization dedicated to supporting the health and well-being of its members and communities. The Data Intern will gain hands-on experience in data science, data analytics, and data governance while using data technologies to develop insights, support business decisions, and contribute to data management initiatives.

What you'll do:

• Data Science: Our advanced analytics team (Data Solutions) is looking for students who have a passion for Data Science to get hands-on experience in advanced data analytics using cloud technology in a fun and rewarding environment. If you are passionate about exploring data, building visualizations to provide insights to business leaders and collaborating with teams, we want to talk to you!
• Data Analytics: The Data Analytics intern will serve on a highly collaborative Business Analytics team delivering health data analytics and informatics for groups, providers, members and internal leadership. This position will use data to solve puzzles and tell a consistent data story using technologies such as Power BI, R, Excel and SQL
• Data Governance: Data governance is a control that ensures that the data entry by an operations team member or by an automated process meets precise standards, such as a business rule, a data definition and data integrity constraints in the data model. You will have the opportunity to enhance your knowledge about Data Governance, Data Quality, Metadata Management and other areas of Data Management, the asset management industry, and to cooperate closely with all business lines

• Be enrolled full-time in college in pursuant of a degree (preferably in Management Information Systems, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Business Administration)
• Desire for growth and advancement in the area of Data Analytics and Governance
• Excellent communication skills
• Intellectual curiosity and willingness to learn
• A positive attitude and desire to have fun at work
• Therefore, you will need to live within commuting distance from Wednesday, May 26 – Friday, July 30, 2027
• Advanced experience in Microsoft Excel
• Knowledge of Power BI, R, and/or SQL
• Interest in AI/ML concepts such as supervised learning
• Familiarity with Python, Databricks, and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
• Curiosity about ethical AI, model interpretability, and responsible data use
