The Missouri Department of Transportation, (MoDOT) is seeking a motivated team player who has Oracle and SQL Server Database knowledge to add to our Data Service Management team.  The Information Systems Technologist performs activities as a Database Administrator focusing on security, performance, recoverability, and maintenance.  Responsibilities are performed under direct supervision.

Responsibilities - What you’ll do

What you’ll do:

  • Participates in maintaining existing databases.  Assists in creating database accounts and applying permissions following appropriate security strategies.  Monitors database activity and analyzes performance.  
  • Creates scripts and runs SQL statements for database administration tasks.  Runs SQL statements to create and manipulate database objects and data, as requested. 
  • Uses database utilities to export and import data.  Assists with database backups and restores.
  • Assists with software installs, database upgrades and patches, creating/migrating databases.
  • Prepares application documentation, including user manuals, operations procedures, and technical and testing documentation.  Provides information and status updates to supervisor, leads and partners.  Strong verbal and electronic communication skills are essential. 

Qualifications - All you need for success

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 60 credit hours toward a related Bachelor's Degree, OR
  • Associate’s Degree: Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field, OR
  • High School Diploma or GED/HiSET, and two years of experience in computer systems, repairs, and operations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Database knowledge of both Oracle and SQL Server.
  • Team player with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of security and data protection. 
  • Competent in understanding and creating technical documentation. 
  • Analytical skills with a logical approach to problem solving. 

Special Working Conditions/Job Characteristics:

  • Job requires occasional, statewide, overnight travel.
