Departmental Analyst 9-12 (Data Reporting Analyst)

The Michigan Department of Corrections is a state agency responsible for corrections and related public services. The Data Reporting Analyst works in the Projections and Policy Impacts Section to plan, design, develop, test, and implement complex legislative and custom ad-hoc reports using multiple data sources. The role also researches and reviews FOIA requests, ensures report accuracy, and applies MDOC data definitions, exclusions, disclosures, laws, and administrative rules.

What you'll do:

• This position functions as a Senior Data Reporting Analyst in the Projections and Policy Impacts (PPI) Section / Office of Research and Planning Division
• This position leads various report teams and is responsible for the completion of the required / requested report
• The team is responsible for all tasks (i.e., Planning and Analysis, Design and Development, Testing, and Implementation) required to produce complex legislative and complex custom ad-hoc reports
• This position reviews and approves staff recommendations related to FOIA requests
• This includes all tasks completed (i.e., research results, documentation, and report results for submission/disbursement)
• This position is responsible for the accuracy of the documentation and translation of the request to the report submitted/disbursed)
• This position functions as a Data Reporting Analyst in the Projections and Policy Impacts (PPI) Section / Office of Research and Planning Division
• This position is assigned to multiple teams and is responsible for all tasks (i.e., Planning and Analysis, Design and Development, Testing, and Implementation) assigned to produce complex legislative and complex custom ad-hoc reports
• This position completes research and makes recommendations/drafts documentation related to FOIA requests
• This includes research results, requirements, and report results for submission/disbursement
• This position documents information supporting the accuracy of the report and completes initial translations of the report for review and approval
• This position gains knowledge and expertise in MDOC data sets, including exclusions, disclosures, and definitions (including administrative definitions)

What they're looking for:

• Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major
• No specific type or amount is required
• One year of professional experience
• Two years of professional experience, including one year of experience equivalent to the intermediate (10) level in state service
• Three years of professional experience, including one year of experience equivalent to the experienced (P11) level in state service
• Minimum two years of experience developing queries from multiple tables and a variety of databases and analyzing the resulting data
• Minimum one year of experience developing queries from multiple tables and a variety of databases and analyzing the resulting data
• Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school and the equivalent of at least two years of full-time active-duty experience at or above the E-6 level in the uniformed services may be substituted for the education requirement
• A bachelor's degree or higher in any major
• At least one year of professional level experience in the state classified service
