This position is part of a team that manages food service operations at all Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) facilities. This position provides analytical research and data to food service staff at various assigned locations. The position reviews information and program data to identify potential food service issues and assists in the development and implementation of training and support services. This position is responsible for training and support services, which includes areas such as Sanitation, Therapeutic and Religious Diet preparation, menu and nutritional compliance, staffing, supervision of prisoner workers, Food Code, and tool and caustic control. This position assists with the collection and processing of program data and information for food service operations. The information is utilized to establish and monitor key performance metrics in the areas of menu compliance, sanitation, food costs, and other program requirements. This position aids in the development of policies and procedures as they relate to the food service operations. Assists with the recruitment and selection of food service personnel. This position requires an understanding of the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development’s current Food Code and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) procedures, and a current Certificate of Completion for ServSafe or its equivalent.

Education

Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.

Experience

Four years of experience as an advanced 9-level worker in an ECP Group One classification.

OR

Three years of experience as an E9, E10, or E11-level worker in an ECP Group One classification.

OR

Two years of experience as an experienced level worker in an ECP Group One technician or paraprofessional classification.

OR

Two years of experience as a first-line supervisor in an ECP Group Three classification.

OR

One year of experience as a second-line supervisor in an ECP Group Three classification.

*Paraprofessional classifications are those requiring an associate's degree or two years of college.  

Educational Substitution
College credits may be substituted on a proportional basis (one year of college education may substitute for one quarter of the required experience) for up to one half of the required experience.

Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school and the equivalent of at least two years of full-time active-duty experience at or above the E-6 level in the uniformed services may be substituted for the education requirement.

Additional Requirements and Information

  • A thorough understanding of the Michigan Department of Public Health Food Safety Code/HAACP, MDOC policies and procedures related to food services.  
  • Knowledge of food temperatures, serving size and recipe development, and food service operations.  
  • Communication skills (both written and oral).  
  • Ability to act under stressful situations.
  • ServSafe certification or equivalent is required within six months of hire date.
  • Valid Driver's License.

**Position has the possibility of being hybrid up to 50%.  There is an expectation that minimum of the first 2 weeks will be worked in-office, to assist in learning the position.  This is subject to change to be consistent with remote work expectations.
