What You'll Do: The Bureau of Environmental Health and Radiation Protection is seeking a Design Specialist 3 to conduct plan reviews for public swimming pools and campgrounds. This position will:
- Act as design specialist having statewide responsibility for coordinating and reviewing engineered designs and plans submitted for the public swimming pool, spa, special use pool, recreational vehicle park, recreation camp, combined park-camp and recreational vehicle park campgrounds in accordance with state law and rules
- Assist other technical and professional personnel engaged in plan review
- Provide technical assistance for all personnel engaged in inspection and assists in planning and coordinating their activities
- Provide professional engineering review and technical assistance for other program areas in bureau (e.g., household sewage disposal systems, private water systems)
- Represent department or bureau at meetings with architects, engineers, manufacturer representatives, contractors, or local, state and federal officials
- Provide planning and technical assistance to mandated statewide construction inspection program

4 years trg. &/or exp. in engineering or engineering design technology which included 1 course or 3 months trg. &/or exp. in one of following: shop math, geometry, trigonometry or calculus & 1 course or 3 months training &/or experience in reading blueprints &/or specifications; or demonstrate proficiency.
-Or 12 months experience as Design Specialist 2, 85822 or in comparable positions involving engineering design work.
Applications of those who meet the minimum qualifications will be further evaluated against the following criteria:
Bachelor's or advanced degree in engineering or engineering design technology
Possession of a Public Engineer registration/license
Experience in reviewing engineered drawings
Experience in reviewing pool plans
Experience in reviewing campground plans
Experience with word processing and presentation programs (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel)
Experience with writing reports, procedures, plans, and letters
Experience working with federal, state and/or local agencies
Experience presenting training and/or public speaking
Experience collecting data and information from studies, investigations or reports

ALL ANSWERS TO THE SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONS MUST BE SUPPORTED BY THE WORK EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION PROVIDED ON YOUR CIVIL SERVICE APPLICATION.
Unless required by legislation, the selected candidate will begin at Pay Grade 33, Step 1 of the union (OCSEA) Pay Range Schedule ($34.53 per hour), with an opportunity for pay increase after six months ($36.20 per hour) of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.
