Position Duties
Digital forensic examiners help investigators find and understand electronic evidence that supports criminal cases. The work blends careful analysis with practical problem solving across many types of devices and systems. As a Digital Forensic Examiner 2, you will perform the following duties:
- Evidence Handling: Receive and manage digital equipment and media from criminal investigations while preserving original data
- Technical Examination: Conduct examinations of electronic devices and use forensic tools to identify and gather case-related information
- Case Support: Assist experienced examiners with complex digital evidence involving deleted files, encrypted data, hidden information, or unusual systems
- Field Assistance: Support investigators at field scenes by helping to identify, collect, and secure electronic equipment
- Network Maintenance: Provide assistance with network accounts, security updates, and infrastructure used by examiners and investigators
- Expert Testimony: Prepare reports and assist with presenting digital evidence and procedures during court proceedings

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $78,925.00 (before taxes).

Minimum Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year as a Digital Forensic Examiner 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- One year of professional work experience in the technical analysis of digital evidence and a bachelor’s degree in digital forensics, cyber forensics, forensic science, computer science, or any information technology field; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year of professional work experience in the technical analysis of digital evidence.
Special Requirement:
- You must possess an active motor vehicle license.
Other Requirements:

- You must obtain and maintain the Certified Video Technician Certification Levels 1 and 2 within the probationary period and maintain the same for the duration of employment in this job.
- You must obtain and maintain an active Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) certification issued by the Pennsylvania State Police within the probationary period and maintain the same for the duration of employment in this job.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.

- This job title has been identified as performing critical duties. Prior to placement in this job title, the selected candidate regardless of their current job, must submit a Report of Medications for screening by the Pennsylvania State Police Medical Officer.
