About this role
UPMC East and UPMC McKeesport are seeking a dynamic Director of Respiratory Services to lead respiratory care operations across both hospital campuses.
In this key leadership role, you’ll oversee respiratory therapists, supervisors, managers, and support staff while partnering closely with the Chief Nursing Officer, nursing leadership, physician teams, and hospital operations. - Lead the development, design, implementation and administration of Respiratory Services, programs and initiatives.
- Assist in the development of Respiratory Services strategic business plans, which incorporate short and long-term projects to meet the mission, vision and goals of UPMC and the department.
- Coordinate, facilitate and coach project teams, preparing and documenting plans and implementation.
- Represent the Respiratory Department on hospital and system committees and task forces, including the Critical Care and Post-Resuscitation Committees.
- Direct departmental human resource functions, including interviewing, selection, performance evaluation and competency, staff development and continuing education and corrective action.
- Establish and maintain standards of communication with employees, including conducting regular department meetings, posting hospital newsletters and announcements and making informal rounds.
- Ensure mechanisms for patient/family satisfaction and implement measures to correct and improve satisfaction.
- Develop and monitor capital and operating budgets and productivity reports.
Oversee and develop respiratory student experiences.
- Graduate of a Co ARC (Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care) approved Respiratory program required.
- AMA-approved BS degree in Respiratory Therapy or BS in related or relevant field of study 5 years of clinical respiratory care experience including experience in a management/leadership role required.
- Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license required.
- Basic Life Support or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation required.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required. Respiratory therapists who receive their RRT credential from the NBRC after July 1, 2002 are required to maintain certification under the NBRC guidelines.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
ACLS required within 1 year of hire date
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Osteopathic Respiratory Care OR Respiratory Care Practitioners (RCP)
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
