WSP is looking for a Director, Senior Water Resources Engineer, to join our dynamic team in Tampa, Florida.
Are you a water resources engineer who enjoys leading engineering design while also engaging with clients and supporting business growth? Are you looking for an opportunity to work with an international company, with an established team of professionals? We have an excellent opportunity for a project management engineer focused on technical problems, client solutions, and expanding market presence. In this position, you will design and analyze engineering projects, manage tasks, cultivate client relationships, and develop new business opportunities. Much of the work will be within Florida and focused on natural systems restoration, stormwater treatment, stream restoration, and resiliency-focused projects.
Work on cutting-edge resilience and natural systems design projects such as vulnerability assessments and stream restoration projects with major clients within the Tampa Bay Region.
Your Impact
- Support and lead business development activities such as client engagement, relationship building, opportunity identification, team formation, proposal preparation, presentations, and successful project capture and execution
- Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, aligning engineering solutions with regulatory requirements, sustainability goals, and long-term resilience strategies
- Provide proactive and strategic leadership for the civil engineering discipline and function, offering direction, expertise, and support to ensure project and work site deliverables are successfully achieved
- Perform engineering review of permit applications, engineering design plans and specifications, standby plans and engineering contracts, integrated management plans, and periodic construction inspections to ensure compliance with regulations and sound engineering practices
- Lead civil engineering projects ensuring contributors understand technical requirements, client expectations, and delivery timelines, while managing budgets, tracking financial performance, monitoring external factors, and supervising subcontractors and staff
- Identify and assess risks in design quality and implementation while supporting continuous improvement and enhancing client satisfaction and project outcomes
- Mentor Project Managers and Staff Engineers, fostering both technical excellence and client engagement skills
- Drive restoration, resiliency, water resource and project designs
- Develop and inform proposal and project scopes, timelines, pricing, and budgetary metrics, while supporting profitable growth and client retention
- Provide verbal and written input to multidisciplinary teams and contribute to delivering high-level, strategic advice to clients
- Collaborate with professionals across disciplines to deliver integrated, client-centered and future-ready solutions
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct
- Mentor early- and mid-career engineers and scientists, supporting professional growth and exposure to client-facing responsibilities
- Coordinate and participate in contract negotiations with clients and subcontractors and assist in drafting complex professional service agreements
- Deliver high-quality products to clients on schedule, ensuring alignment with client goals and expectations
- Conduct both field and office tasks associated with water-resources projects
- Guide CAD modeling, GIS, and other relevant software technologies
- Prepare calculations, designs, and recommendations for water-resources projects
- Author construction bid documents, technical reports, permit applications, and proposals that support both project delivery and business development efforts
- Manage and lead projects in a team environment while maintaining strong client relationships and communication
- Actively support and contribute to marketing efforts, proposal development, and client outreach initiatives
- Commit to WSP’s safety program
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in environmental, agricultural, or civil engineering
- 10+ years of post-baccalaureate experience in engineering
- Experience in consulting practice
- Registered Professional Engineer in Florida; or ability to obtain within three months
- Project manager experience with demonstrated ability to balance technical delivery and client engagement
- Skilled communicator (oral and written) with ability to interface directly with clients and stakeholders
- Travel as necessary; primarily within Florida
- Position based in Tampa, FL
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite
- Strong communication skills; proven ability to prepare reports, proposals, and client-facing deliverables
- Safe driving record in accordance with company policy
Preferred Qualifications:
- Graduate degree in engineering
- Knowledge of Florida hydrology and water-resources issues
- Established client relationships and project experience in Florida
- Relationships with Florida’s water management districts
- Experience with water models such as ICPR/StreamWise, HEC-RAS, SWMM
