DEPARTMENTAL PROMOTIONAL OPPORTUNITY


This is a Departmental Promotional opportunity and is limited to current employees who occupy a permanent position in the Fresno County Department of Public Works and Planning and meet the minimum qualifications and filing requirements specified in this announcement. Extra-help employees are not eligible.


The County of Fresno invites applications for the position of Disposal Site Equipment Operator Trainee. Incumbents receive training in the operation of various types of equipment used in a sanitary landfill operation.

Disposal Site Equipment Operator Trainees are hired on a provisional basis. Permanent status may not be obtained in this classification. Incumbents must advance to the Disposal Site Equipment Operator I level within two (2) years, or separate from County service.
 
The American Avenue Disposal Site is located in Kerman, approximately 23 miles west of Fresno. Individuals will be required to provide their own transportation to and from work (auto expenses and travel time are not covered). Candidates must be able and willing to work shifts as assigned, including overtime, weekends and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: One (1) year of full-time, paid work experience in the operation of trucks, tractors, other construction/farm equipment, and/or heavy equipment utilized in sanitary landfill operations, road construction and maintenance, commercial construction, or public works construction.

LicensePossession of a valid Class "C" driver's license, or equivalent.

OtherMay be required to obtain a valid Class "B" California Driver's license with endorsement for air brakes and tank vehicle operations within two (2) years.

Note: Permanent status may not be obtained in this classification. Incumbents must advance to the Disposal Site Equipment Operator I level within two (2) years, or separate from County service.

Candidates may be required to participate in the County's Drug and Alcohol Testing Program, which includes an initial and subsequent random testing, as required by Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations.

SELECTION PROCESS:
Pursuant to Fresno County Personnel Rule 4 - Selection Process, applicants may be required to complete an examination process and successful candidates will be placed on an employment list effective for a minimum of 3 months and certified in final rank order as vacancies occur.
